As a person with a disability, you have a harder time than others, so the disability discount when buying a car is supposed to be a way to save some money.

 

These requirements must be met

The discounts for people with disabilities vary depending on the manufacturer. To prove that you are eligible, the following documents may be required:

  • Severely disabled person's pass (if 50% disability or more)
  • Proof of degree of disability (if less than 50% disability)
  • Symbols in disability cards (rarely required)

If the manufacturer requires a mark, then in most cases one of the following marks should be noted in the ID card:

  • G = severely disabled
  • aG = exceptionally disabled
  • BI = blind
  • GI = deaf
  • H = helpless

Documents to buy a car with a disability discount

As mentioned above, it is necessary that you can show your severely disabled ID card or proof of disability and that one of the required marks is entered in it. Furthermore, you should ask the retailer the following questions, because the criteria for granting a disability discount are not the same everywhere:

Motor vehicle subsidy for the disabled

Under certain circumstances, people with disabilities can receive a subsidy for the purchase of a car, the conversion to a disabled-friendly vehicle or a driver's license. This motor vehicle subsidy is called motor vehicle assistance.

  • dependent on net income
  • is based on the monthly reference value according to § 18 SGB IV
  • not every car can be bought

When buying a car at the dealership, ask for discounts for the disabled. In the end, it's up to your negotiating skills how big the discount is and whether you get one at all.

It is important to know that retailers are not obliged to give a discount for severely disabled people. Some car dealerships offer discounts, but these can vary greatly.
